Technique : Sponged Sunset

This is another technique that I taught my stampers at my last Stamp Club. We made a beautiful sponged sunset. Here are the step-by-step instructions.

Step 1.
Ink the rounded part of a sponge by pressing directly on an ink pad. Here I used, in order, working myself up the cardstock, Close to Cocoa, So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie and Tangerine Tango.

Step 2.
Use a circular motion to apply ink. Re-ink your sponge, remove excess ink and continue sponging ink randomly. Continue adding color until you have the color that you want.

Step 3.
Finish your card using your sponged background. Here I stamped the grass from the Inspired by nature stamp set in Chocolate Chip. To make it look like cat tails, I used the Horizontal Slot Punch to punch out the shapes in Chocolate Chip and then glued them on with the 2 way glue pen.

Supplies
Stamp set:
Inspired by Nature, Sincere Salutations
Cardstock: Kraft, Whisper White, Tangerine Tango (retired)
Ink: Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine Tango (retired)
Accessories: Wide Oval Punch, Horizontal Slot Punch, Hemp twine, Stamping Sponges, Sticky Strip

More Animal Stories and Tall Tales

Well good Monday morning to all!

This morning I am trying something different. I have been seeing all of these different color and sketch challenges on crafters blogs and decided today would be the day that I try one out! A little scary but I actually like what I came up with.

As I mentioned in my post on Friday, I absolutely love the new Animal Stories stamp set and the matching Tall Tales Designer Paper. I have been wanting to do a card with the cute whale and matching paper for weeks now! So what better then to use it for the Mojo Monday Challenge - Sketch 94...

I used So Saffron, Chocolate Chip and the new Bermuday Bay. I stamped the whale in Bermuda Bay on Whisper White cardstock. I wanted the whale to be floating in water so I took out my Big Shot and Scribbles die and cut 2 out of vellum cardstock. I cut all the "scribbles" apart. With my Bermuda Bay marker, I colored a little on one side, then flipped it over. I used my 2 way glue pen to glue the "waves" to the Whisper White cardstock and added a little glitter, using the glue pen as well. I then cut around my whale before gluing it to a piece of So Saffron. A piece of 1/4" Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon hides all the little cut "tails" of the scribbles. It was then mounted on the piece of So Saffron using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Here is a closer look:

Supplies
Stamp set: Animal Stories, Fundamental phrases
Cardstock: So Saffron, Chocolate Chip, Bermuda Bay (textured), Whisper White, Vellum
Ink: So saffron, Bermuda Bay (marker)
Paper: Tall Tales Designer Series Paper
Accessories: Big Shot, Scribbles die, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, 1 3'8" Circle Punch, Dimensionals, 2 way glue pen, 1/4" Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Paper Snips, Snail Adhesive, Paper Cutter , Stamping Sponges

Hope you like it!

Faux Wood Technique

This is the card we made at our Stampers Club last week. My stampers requested I come up with some masculine cards. Something everyone seems to have a hard time with. I have been hearing about this Faux Wood technique and so decided to scout it out and see how it's done. Thanks to Google, I found some great video tutorials out the in the blog world :)

Supplies
Stamp set: Party Hearty
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Kraft, Very Vanilla
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel (craft)
Paper: Manchester (retired)
Accessories: Scallop Circle punch, 3/4" Circle punch, Chocolate Chip Stampin' write marker, Stamping sponges, ruler, paper cutter, Stampin' Dimensionals

To get the wood look, you simply drag your ink pad across your piece of card stock. I used Kraft cardstock and started with my Close to Cocoa ink pad first. I did the same thing with the Chocolate Chip, and then Creamy Caramel. I then used a ruler and traced lines at every 3/4" with my Chocolate Chip marker. I free handed the "planks" and finished the wood background by adding nail holes. Pretty simple, right?

Happy Sunday!

Animal Stories and Tall Tales

One of the perks of being a demonstrator is that we get the opportunity to order some sneak peeks before a new catalogue comes out! Interested!?! Check out the NEW Starter Kit available as of July 15th here!
One of the sets that I preordered is called Animal Stories. I know that I will use this set ALOT...it's so cute! I FINALLY got to play with my new stuff yesterday. Here is what I came up with:

Supplies
Stamp sets:
Animal Stories, Fundamental Phrases
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Whisper White
Ink: So Saffron, Whisper White, Old Olive,
Paper: Tall Tales Designer Paper
Accessories: Chocolate Chip Stampin’ marker, Scallop Edge Punch, ¼” Grosgrain ribbon in Old Olive, Chocolate Chip and So Saffron, Word Window Punch, Stamping sponges

I wanted to try something other than my regular 4 ¼” x 5 ½” card format so I made this one 3”x6”. I love it!
I used some Tall Tales Designer Paper for the background and detailed it by using the Scallop Edge Punch (on sale this week!). The paper determined the colors: So Saffron, Old Olive and Chocolate Chip. The giraffe was inked in So Saffron and then using my Chocolate Chip Stampin’ marker, I colored in the details right on my stamp before stamping it on my Whisper White cardstock. I love the soft look that it gives the image.

The next one was made using the elephant image from the same stamp set and another sheet from the Tall Tales paper. This one is really colorful! Again I used the So Saffron, Old Olive and Chocolate Chip but this time added some Rose Red to add some punch and to coordinate with the background paper.

Supplies
Stamp sets:
Animal Stories, Happy Everything
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Old Olive, Rose Red
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Rose Red
Paper: Tall Tales Designer Paper
Accessories: Ticket Corner Punch, 5/8” Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon , Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stamping sponges

What do you think? Leave me a comment :)
